Ceramics
I am an artist who creates functional ceramics on the potter’s wheel or by handbuilding, adding detailed surface decoration. I learned ceramics through a combination of community studio classes and workshops. Starting from childhood, I always loved to draw, but I have found my favorite medium in pottery. Some of my favorite techniques are Sgraffito, where I add colored slips and underglazes to my work then carve through them to add lines, or an inlay technique that is both known as Sanggam or Mishima. For that, I carve areas, add colored slip/underglaze, then shave it back smooth so it matches the shape of the form. Currently, my favorite imagery is inspired by the plants and animals found in Central Texas.
