Kat Swansey is drawn to the overlooked and forgotten corners of Texas—the places most people pass by without a second glance. Working primarily on film, she documents shuttered beer joints, abandoned buildings, ghost towns, and the quiet stretches of land that connect them.Raised in Central Texas, she approaches these landscapes with both familiarity and urgency. Her work reflects a way of life that continues to fade as the state rapidly changes, using color, texture, and light to preserve what remains while honoring the grit and character that define it.Working in long-form series and book projects, Swansey builds visual narratives rooted in place. Her Texas Textures volumes serve as an ongoing archive of the state’s backroads—an attempt to document what’s left before it’s gone.
